The 2012-2013 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. The assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel, and type of housing. Contact your local neighborhood center for an appointment or more information.
WHEN TO APPLY:
Elderly (60 & over) or disabled can call for an appointment before November 1, 2012
All other households:
November 1, 2012 to April 30, 2013 (All people must apply in person this year)
WHAT TO TAKE:
Proof of income for every adult in household (recent check or photocopy, recent benefit letter
or a recent bank statement if check is automatically deposited)
Birthdates of household members
Proof of Social Security numbers of all household members (official documents with Social Security number, Social Security card, 1099, USCIS or I94)
One recent heating bill (service address has to be same as your residence address)
One recent electric bill (service address has to be same as your residence address)
Please bring copies of your check stubs for the three-month period preceding the date of application, or a copy of your federal income tax return.
This income may include: Social Security Benefits, Supplemental Security Income, Family Investment Program, Veteran's Assistance, Unemployment Insurance, and pensions. Please bring copies of your most recent 3 months' check stubs.
Please bring a copy of your most recent federal income tax return.
Your Medicaid number is on your Medicaid card. The numbers needed are immediately following your name and number in the aid type box.
Note: You will NOT be allowed to apply for the program if you do not bring everything listed above. There will be absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS.
