Annual Paint-a-Thon
The Annual Paint-a-Thon is a collaborative effort between Community Action of Southeast Iowa, Two Rivers Bank and Diamond Vogel Paint. The event started in 1993 and is held on a Saturday in September every year.
Two Rivers Bank provides the advertising, pays for volunteer t-shirts and the luncheon. Diamond Vogel supplies all the paint that is used and Community Action helps choose the houses to be painted and does small repairs on the houses if necessary.
In 19 years over 12,880 volunteers have helped paint 415 homes in Des Moines County. On September 10, 2011 there were 29 teams that painted 15 houses.
Volunteers from many community organizations volunteer to help paint with their “team”. It is a great way to help people and help the community. Volunteers usually go to their prospective house around 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning and most of the houses are completed by noon. Then volunteers, workers and owners are welcome to enjoy lunch provided by Two Rivers bank at a pre-determined location.
